YOUNGSTERS at an Eastleigh school held a fundraising day in memory of a former pupil.
Pupils were asked to donate £1 for a "caps, hats and non-uniform day" at Norwood Primary School on what would have been Sophie Barringer's seventh birthday.
Inspirational Sophie died last December exactly one year after undergoing major surgery to remove cancer from her heart, liver and right kidney.
A special charity, called Sophie's Appeal, was launched and has already netted more than £20,000 for the Piam Brown ward at Southampton General Hospital where she received the majority of her hospital care.
Sophie's parents Lin and Mike, of Desborough Road, went back to the school for a balloon-release and to hand over a framed picture of Sophie which children have asked to be hung in the school.
A friendship bench and a special garden were officially unveiled by Saints midfielder David Prutton, who is pictured above with Sophie's mum, Lin.
