Fareham MP Mark Hoban joined campaigners from Gosport and Fareham Friends of the Earth at the weekend as they called for the government to support the supertram.
Members of the group were handing out postcards at Fareham bus station on Saturday as part of a campaign to support the revised bid for the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) system between Fareham, Gosport and Portsmouth.
The campaigners, who have all joined the push by public transport users group Pro Metro Alliance, used the event to draw attention to serious traffic congestion on the M27 and A32.
Friends of the Earth spokesman Tim Pratt said: "Everyone knows that the roads in the area are terminally congested. Ministers are always talking about the need for better public transport. It's time for them to put their money where their mouth is."
A revised funding bid is now being considered. It is hoped the tram will alleviate three million car journeys a year.
