SIMON KATICH could struggle to make the Australian one-day squad for this summer's tour of England after flopping in the recent series whitewashing of New Zealand.

Katich, who is contracted to Hampshire this summer, made just five as Australia romped to 347-5 on their way to a 122-run victory in the fifth and final one-day game in Napier yesterday.

Skipper Ricky Ponting thrashed an unbeaten 141 while Adam Gilchrist struck 91.

Katich batted in four of the five matches but finished with an average of just 26.50 - the lowest of any of Australia's frontline batsmen in the series.

In all, Katich averages 25.27 in his 15 limied-overs internationals with just two half-centuries to his credit.

His best friend, Mike Hussey, also impressed by scoring 97 runs in three innings without being dismissed.

Former Hampshire batsman Michael Clarke struck 43 yesterday to finish with a series average of 49.00.
