THE atrocious weather could not prevent 16 school and college teams from producing an excellent display of running rugby in the 32nd Embley Park School Sevens Tournament on Wednesday afternoon.
Rain and hailstones streamed across the Romsey ground but it did not deter from the quality of rugby on show.
Portsmouth Grammar sunk last season's winners Latymer Upper from London in a cracking contest while Seaford College lifted the plate with a win over county rivals Chichester High School.
Hosts Embley Park and neighbours Stanbridge Earls, who came in at short notice, played well but lost all their pool games.
Embley coach Neil Joicse was pleased the day went off well, despite the miserable conditions.
He said: "The performances of all the sides was very good and they played some superbly entertaining rugby."
