CROWDS of villagers gathered in Hythe when members of the village's Rotary Club unveiled a clock to mark the 100th anniversary of their organisation.

Shoppers will no longer be stuck if they forget their watches after the traditional timepiece was erected above Geoffrey Gook Outfitters in the High Street.

The clock was unveiled by Councillor David Smith, chairman of Hythe and Dibden Parish Council. He said: "I am sure this clock will be a lasting tribute to the work of local Rotarians past, present and future and will be of great benefit to our community." Mike Fenn, senior vice-president of the Rotary Club of Hythe and District, told the crowd: "Hopefully you will be able to check your watches and rely on the clock and it will give faithful service for years to come."

The Hythe Rotary Club has been fundraising for good causes since it was established in 1969.

As part of its centenary year, the club is working to start a Rotaract Club for men and women aged 18-30. If you are interested, visit the website at www.hytherotary.org.uk
