Sir.-Many readers will have watched the recent BBC1 documentary When Your Face Doesn't Fit.
This programme very tastefully concentrated on one of the many terrible complications associated with neurofibromatosis - facial disfigurement.
Although it was mentioned that neurofibromatosis (Nf for short) affects one in every 2,500 people, readers may not realise this condition can also cause a wide variety of other problems affecting eyes, hearing, spinal cord and brain, including learning difficulties, behavioural problems and epilepsy.
Nf occasionally becomes malignant and can cause premature death.
This condition can occur in any family and the Neurofibromatosis Association urgently needs funds to provide support to those living with Nf and to fund research into finding a cure.
If anyone would like to help with a donation or fundraising in their area, contact me on 01256 704701 or the Neurofibromatosis Association head office on 020 8439 1234.
My particular interest in neurofibromatosis is that my daughter died of the condition when she was only 24.
