FOUR charity workers in the New Forest have been praised for their outstanding commitment.

Val Baker, Caroline St John, Dave Greenhough and his wife Elva help out at the New Forest branch of the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals. The dedicated team members have been highly commended in the 2004 PDSA National Volunteer Awards.

Area fundraising manager, Sian Baker, said: "I'm so thrilled that they have been recognised in this way. They work incredibly hard to raise funds for the PDSA, often coming up with great ideas."

The team was presented with a certificate and gifts to the value of £25.

Janet Compton, the charity's head of volunteering, said: "Volunteers are vital to the continued success of the PDSA. The awards are one way of saying 'thank you' to people who freely give their time, energy and skills to raise funds for pets in need of vets."
