WORLD-RENOWNED retro kitsch artist Vince Ray will play some aural masterpieces in Winchester on Saturday, March 5, when he appears at The Railway Inn with his band the Vincent Razorbacks.
More famous for his artistic endeavours, which feature on countless T-shirts, posters, record sleeves and in private collections, Vince relaxes by gigging with the Razorbacks.
The Razorbacks will be promoting their self-titled debut album, which has just been released on Raucous Records.
The songs - with such titles as Date with the Devil, Chainsaw Boogie and Surfing' DOA, reflect the themes found in his sought-after art, viewed through a kaleidoscope of noisy, dirty rock and roll, drawing on underground sounds from every era since the 1950s.
Musically, Vince describes the Razorbacks as "a celebration of rock and roll from the crackly rockabilly 45s, through '60s garage punk and psychedelia, and up to the Ramones and the Damned".
The London-based band has a growing cult following, drawing fans of all ages and from all walks of life, with a mutual love for noisy, tuneful, goodtime punky rock.
Fiercely independent and underground, they play for those who like grass-roots music played in sweaty back rooms - and they are eager to baptise the legendary Railway into the church of the Razorbacks.
Doors open at 8pm and tickets cost £5 in advance or £6 on the door (over-18s only).
