JONATHAN Wilkes makes a welcome return to The Mayflower in Tommy from 28 February.

It seems like only yesterday that the popular stage performer and TV host was in Southampton when he starred in last year's hit musical Grease.

This time Jonathan is playing a completely different character. Tommy is an abused deaf, dumb and blind kid who endures a life of torment until one day his life changes when he happens to play a pinball machine.

He becomes a legendary 'Pinball Wizard' and discovers that he can finally express himself through his pinball genius. Tommy embarks on a rock 'n' roll lifestyle that carries him away from the harshness of reality.

Rock legends The Who wrote the music back in the late 1960s as a rock opera album. The concept of their album developed and it went on to become a 1970s cult film starring Elton John in the title role.

Producer Bill Kenwright hopes that the musical will make a highly anticipated return to the West End following this national tour. If it does return, it will be the first time it has taken to the stage in London in nearly ten years.

Wilkes has appeared in many stage shows, including The Rocky Horror Show and Godspell. His latest role in this timeless, high energy musical production will no doubt add to his growing reputation as one of the hottest musical performers around.

The show runs until March 5. For ticket information, call The Mayflower Box office on 023 8071 1811.
