CURRY Tales, the delicious new stage show from BBC1 Heaven & Earth guest presenter Rani Moorthy, will be at New Greenham Arts next month.
A world of chopping, tasting and bubbling pots holds surprising secrets and unexpected dreams. Hilarious and moving at times, the play explores how curry is integral to south Asian culture and its relationship to the world.
Through Rosemary's revenge with a dish best served very hot or Kalvinder's quick-fix curry paste solution to life's problems, Rani (pictured) reveals the place that curry occupies in the heart and mind.
Subverting western views, curry is seen as more than a Friday night phenomena - a source of identity and power for the South Asian cook who can captivate the taste buds of her family and friends, manipulating emotions as she asks: "Who deserves my curry?"
Curry Tales - appearing on Thursday, March 17, at 8pm - is a show you can really taste, with ace cook Rani employing her culinary skills live on stage.
From vengeful Trinidadian duck curry to life-saving Malaysian Laksa, she encourages the audience to eat what she cooks.
Razor-sharp observation combines with acute characterisation in a heady mix of flavours to please even the most discerning palate.
