HARRY REDKNAPP is confident Saints will soon overcome their away day blues - despite missing several great chances to beat bottom-of-the-table West Brom.

Midfielder David Prutton volleyed a glorious chance over the bar from six yards and the otherwise outstanding Henri Camara missed a hat-trick of chances as Saints dominated the 0-0 draw against fellow strugglers West Brom at the Hawthorns.

Those spurned opportunities mean that Saints are still without a Premiership away win since beating Manchester City 3-1 ten months ago - though the clean sheet was only their third away in the league since November 2003.

Saints move above Norwich into third from bottom spot on goal difference, two points adrift of safety with the bottom four all having 11 games left.

But Redknapp is upbeat about Saints' survival chances.

He said: "We've got a very tough run in at home, where we've still got to play Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

"They don't come any tougher than that but we've got away games where we can pick up points.

"I certainly think we're capable of winning away from home with the team I've got now, but I wouldn't have said that six weeks ago.

"We couldn't win anywhere with that side.

"Now I wouldn't swap the team I have had since the transfer window for any other side down there."

Redknapp dropped loan signing Calum Davenport to the bench but his other four transfer window buys - Jamie Redknapp, Nigel Quashie, Olivier Bernard and Camara - were all involved again last night.

The Saints boss added: "We missed some gilt-edged chances and I was just waiting for the ball to hit the back of the net when David Prutton had that chance from six yards out.

"But the shape of the team was good, it was only the second time I've had to play those players and apart from the one change it was the side that played so well against Everton.

"If they all stay fit we've got a chance.

"Nigel did well, so did Graeme Le Saux in only his third game back, and Olivier Bernard was terrific - he dealt well with a good player in Gera.

"There's now a good shape to the team, we've got a good balance, and the two up front are a threat.

"Peter Crouch is a big 'un and Camara has the lightning pace we've needed away from home.

"He can run away from defenders if a team plays higher up the park."

Saints are now preparing for Saturday's home game against an Arsenal side that will be looking to take out its frustration at St Mary's following a 3-1 Champions League defeat at Bayern Munich last night.

But Redknapp was happy to leave The Hawthorns with a point.

He added: "It's going to be tight but it's another home game gone for West Brom and it takes us above Norwich on goal difference.

"We're only two points behind Crystal Palace and we still have to play them at their place, as well as Norwich at home - so there's a lot to play for.

"I wouldn't like to say how it will pan out in the end but we just have to keep doing our jobs."

Saints under-18s will play their FA Youth Cup quarter final against Redknapp's former club West Ham at Upton Park on Tuesday, March 8.
