Fareham Town produced one of their best performances of 2005 only to be held 2-2 by VT FC at Cams Alders.
"We should have won it," said manager Louis Savage. "We hit the post once, the bar twice and had a couple cleared off the line. Even their manager said that if it had been a boxing match, the ref would have stopped it."
Fareham - boosted by the recent signings of Jamie Ford and Dean Blake (loan) from Havant & Waterlooville - fell behind to a Kevin Gibbens goal but bounced back to lead 2-1 through Lee Paul and James Lacey.
While VT boss Dave Diaper credited the Boatmen's equaliser to Gary Biddle, Savage pointed out: "It was an own goal - James Lacey scored that one too!"
