HARRY REDKNAPP is delighted at Theo Walcott's decision to sign for Saints, despite interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
England Under-17 winger Walcott's brilliant performances for his country and the Saints under-18 side has alerted the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
But a deal to keep Walcott, pictured above, at Saints until 2008, with a view to an extension, is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
Negotiations are ongoing with the club and Key Sports Management but dad Don said: "Theo will be staying at Southampton - we're currently sorting out the finer detail."
Redknapp has seen Walcott play twice in the 1-0 FA Youth Cup wins against Norwich and Arsenal.
He said: "It's good news for the club. It's important for the future of the club to keep your best kids.
"Theo's better off here anyway - he will get a chance to play if he's good enough, that's for sure.
"If he goes to one of the big clubs, he might never get a chance to play. I've seen a million kids like that fade away.
"He's a prospect and there are a couple of good kids in that team. I think the boy (Martin) Cranie is going to be an excellent player."
Meanwhile, Redknapp will be hoping for a hat-trick of FA Cup wins against Manchester United - if Saints beat Brentford next week.
Redknapp's Bournemouth side knocked out Ron Atkinson's Manchester United with a 2-0 fourth round win at Dean Court in 1984.
And, in 2001, Paolo Di Canio scored the only goal at Old Trafford as Redknapp's West Ham knocked United out at the same stage.
Now the Saints boss is hoping for a quarter-final against Sir Alex Ferguson's side, two months before United visit St Mary's for the last game of the Premiership season.
Redknapp, who led Pompey to two Premiership wins against Manchester United, said: "It's an exciting draw but we have to get past Brentford first and we know that won't be easy.
"We're not taking anything for granted but it would be a good one for all of us if we can get through."
The fifth round replay against Brentford will not be screened live on TV but tickets for the trip to Griffin Park went on sale today. There are 601 seats (£17 adults, £12 seniors/teens and 2216 terrace tickets (£12 adults, £6 seniors/teens) available. To book, ring 0870 220 0150.
