THERE are more women than men in Southampton's workforce, according to figures from general union GMB.
The 56,688 women in employment make up 50.9 per cent of the workforce, compared to 54,637 men (49.1 per cent).
Southampton ranked seventh out of 19 in the south-east region, with the Isle of Wight topping the league for women outnumbering men.
It has 27,425 female workers (55.6 per cent) compared to 21,937 men (44.4 per cent). The findings are based on people employed in local authority areas.
