Eastleigh Operatic and Musical Society Junior Section, Thornden Hall, Chandler's Ford.
Director David Tatnall has produced another superb show, this time set in 19th century Siam where Anna goes to teach the king's children.
Her Western influence causes the king to question the foundation of his authority, society and manners.
Rachel Bateman gives a warm and commanding performance as the charming but single-minded Anna. Excellent character portrayals are also provided by Rich-ard Spencer as the King and Sophie Hambley as Lady Thiang who, with the other wives, maintains throughout the effacing elegance of the Siamese ladies.
EOMS Juniors are not afraid to use young players in individual parts and all acquitted themselves well. A clash of cymbals introducing the excellent 'Small House of Uncle Thomas' ballet intensifies the atmosphere, leading to a finale where Siam is already changing. This is a fabulous evening of colour, music and youthful talent.
