POMPEY were yesterday announcing pre-tax profits of more than £3.3m in their first Premiership year - despite a Fratton Park capacity of just 20,000.

Chief executive Peter Storrie said: "We're very pleased with the results, they're tremendous considering we can only get 20,000 gates.

"Despite extensive spending, we've managed to come out with a great result. It just shows what we can do when we get a bigger stadium.

"A big part of it is balancing the TV income we received with the increased wages. We had a great FA Cup run with games on Sky, which helped."
