TO HIT the ball further, lower your handicap, improve your swing and strike more accurate shots, you need to improve your golf-specific fitness.
So says golfing biomechanic Jon Harrison who has designed a golf conditioning programme at his Winchester-based swingtek studio.
There have been obvious improvements in club and ball technology, but Harrison points out that by far the biggest strides in the modern game are the result of the players' increasing levels of fitness and flexibility.
Harrison says: "At swingtek, we don't make golf pros but we do make better players. To improve someone's golf game, you need to improve the golfer - the way he prepares, swings and exercises."
His tailored, individual golf conditioning programmes are based on functional exercises that restore muscle balance, flexibility and strength, and coordination of golf-specific movement patterns.
Set up in the autumn, swingtek already counts several Hamsphire golf professionals amongst its clients. To take their game to the next level, anyone serious about golf needs to work those golfing muscles. The first consultation at the swingtek studio is free of charge.
