SAD news: I start this week's article with the very sad news that county councillor Don Allen passed away last weekend. Don was a very hard-working county councillor indeed.
He was the portfolio holder of education for Hampshire, a position which he carried out with due diligence, as he did with local ward issues.
He had been active in many organisations - CAB Tadley, Hurst school and QMC to name a few. The list is endless.
Don was a gentleman. He would get his point across. However, he always stayed calm but firm over the issue, making sure that all points were raised from all angles.
Our condolences go to Sheila, his wife, and their two sons, with the words "Thank you for sharing Don with the community".
CON men: I have to report that there is a group of con men going around the town.
They are distracting home owners by getting them to go into the garden while accomplices go into the house and take valuables.
Don't let anyone you don't know into your garden or home.
Check their identity if you go into the garden and lock the door behind you.
THE Hurst Leisure Centre: Is celebrating the launch of its Inclusive Fitness Initiative on Saturday, February 26, and is holding an open day for people to view the new enhanced gym facilities, which now allow people with disabilities to fully participate in the gym, as well as see the full range of activities on offer at the centre.
Visitors are welcome between 11am and 4pm, and everyone will be entered into a free draw.
Anyone booking a gym membership during the weekend will escape the membership fee.
There will be a soft play area, bouncy castle, and balloons for youngsters, and an exhibition of paintings by adult students.
GET-TOGETHER: The Lighthouse Trust is holding its get-together tea and cake reunion and AGM on Sunday, February 27, at 3pm, at Main Road Methodist Church.
