TSUNAMI: ASDA events co-ordinator Sam Hutchins wishes to thank customers and staff for their generosity.
People will be pleased to hear that £4,501 was raised for the tsunami appeal.
VALENTINE'S celebration: Held last Sunday at Viables Craft Centre, this was well attended and successful.
I looked in on the tea dance and found a seat at one of the tables at the side of the dance floor, from where I enjoyed a cup of tea as I watched couples waltzing to the sound of Beware my Foolish Heart.
Looking around the barn, I saw balloons and red hearts decorating the walls. The cha cha cha proved popular and so did sequence dancing.
Tea dances appeal to older people, enabling them to have fun and take some exercise.
For young and not so young, the barn dance on Sunday was sure to be popular and very enjoyable.
The barn provides a fine venue for parties, and more information can be obtained from the centre office.
WYKEHAM Artworks: I also recently visited the Wykeham Artworks at Viables.
The gallery was opened by Geoff Older in 1993.
In this local gallery, formerly a granary, artists exhibit their paintings, photographs and sculptures, as well as a wide range of unusual creative works.
Examples of unusual items framed for customers include a rugby ball and a hockey stick.
Quality framing, repair work and restoration are undertaken.
Other picture-framing businesses in Basingstoke refer customers with unusual requests to Viables Craft Centre.
Many works of art are on display in the gallery and I noted how busy it was when I was walking round.
