THE Turner Sims Concert Hall in Southampton presents two very special concerts this week.

On Tuesday, pianists Steven Osborne presents one of the most important piano works from the 20th century, Oliver Messiaen's vast and virtuosic Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jsus.

Described as the longest love song ever written in the language of the piano, this will be a rare opportunity to hear a complete performance of this extraordinary cycle by one of its great exponents.

The performance runs for an extraordinary 135 minutes, without an interval!

Tickets £15. Box office on 023 8059 5151.

On Thursday, Algerian singer guitarist Hasna El Becharia brings the sights and sounds of the Sahara desert to the Turner Sims for a very special one-off show.

Dubbed 'the unknown Nina Simone of the Sahara Desert', Hasna El Becharia is one of North Africa's hidden gems.

With a career that spans some 30 years, the Algerian artist has released only one album entitled Johara (The Jewel).

Influenced by the intriguing atmosphere of her surroundings, she was inspired by the idea of mixing the distinctive genres of the diwan, foundou and the popular haddaoui (North African black music and Arab-Berber wedding repertoires) to reflect the many shades and layers of local ancestral musical traditions.

Tickets £14. Box office on 023 8059 5151.
