Winchester & District's Rachel Townend and Natalie Coveney rolled back the years to finish first and second senior women in the fifth and final Hampshire Cross-Country League fixture at Wimborne.

During the season Townend chalked up a magnificent five senior wins in the league to be overall champion, while Coveney came fourth.

With Fran Gay completing the team in 45th place, Winchester came tantalisingly close to being senior women's champions, but lost out to Aldershot, Farnham & District by just one point.

The vets' team did climb to the top of the league podium thanks to the efforts of Gay, Delian Brown and Sue Davis.

Winchester's senior men were newly promoted to Division 1 this season and have struggled in some races - but they fielded one of their strongest teams at Wimborne to finish fifth (seventh overall), securing their top-flight status. Julian Mann was 18th, Duncan Wightman 34th, Jeremy Braines 39th, George Hide 40th, Daniel Leedham 62nd (8th under-20), Alex Pritchard 66th (9th under-20), Mike Noyce 67th, Phil Manly 76th, Ken Hardcastle 137th, Ian Leedham 151st, Andy Tremain 158th.

For the under-13 girls, Nicola Ferris rounded off the season in style with a win ahead of Louisa Warwick fifth, Ollie Berry ninth, Hannah Vosser tenth and Fenella Langridge 21st. The team finished second on the day and runners-up overall - to add to their county championship success in January.

Ferris also finished second overall in the league and Vosser fifth.

The under-15 boys scored season's best positions. Dan Hunt was ninth and Jack Bolton 11th. James Harding led the under-13 boys home in 16th ahead of Ollie Halford-Guerra 23rd, Sam Bolton 27th and Sean Davis 32nd.
