THE AVIATOR (12A): Martin Scorsese's lengthy biopic of reclusive industrialist Howard Hughes, paints a vivid and sumptuous portrait of the Hollywood golden age. Leonardo DiCaprio is incredibly assured as the tormented mogul with strong support from Cate Blanchett, Alan Alda and Alec Baldwin.

CLOSER (15): Photographer Anna can't resist the charms of manipulative novelist Dan, despite being in a happy relationship with her doctor boyfriend Larry and the fact that he also has a highly attractive girlfriend. The repercussions for all four characters are messy and unexpected in this tightly acted and well-scripted drama.

LADDER 49 (12A): Joaquin Phoenix plays Jack Morrison, a rookie firefighter assigned to the close-knit Baltimore firehouse run by Chief Kennedy. Tragedy looms large during a warehouse blaze when a floor gives way, trapping Jack. Can his friends save him?

THE MAGIC ROUNDABOUT (U): Computer animated remake of the classic British kids favourite. Starring the voices of Robbie Williams, Kylie, Tom Baker, Joanna Lumley, Ian McKellen and Lee Evans.

MEET THE FOCKERS (12A): Robert De Niro reprises his role as retired CIA agent and disproving prospective father-in-law to Ben Stiller's hapless suitor, Greg. This time they are joined by Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand as Greg's hippy parents. Hilarious fun!

MILLION DOLLAR BABY (12A): Clint Eastwood plays Frankie Dunn, a grizzled boxing trainer who reluctantly agrees to take on waitress Maggie Fitzgerald, who is desperate to escape her dead-end job. The result is a brilliant and moving film.

OCEAN'S TWELVE (12A): George Clooney returns as Danny Ocean, three years after masterminding the daring heist of 160 million dollars from arrogant casino owner Terry Benedict.

RACING STRIPES (U): The official film of Red Nose Day 2005 is a feel-good family adventure, produced by the same team who made Babe. With a host of celebrity voices, Racing Stripes tells the heart-warming tale of an abandoned baby zebra who falls in love with the idea of winning the prestigious Kentucky Open.

RAY (15): Biopic of the famous pianist and singer Ray Charles featuring a sensational central performance from Jamie Foxx, which captures the charisma and energy of the man.

THE SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS MOVIE (U): He's yellow and a sponge and lives in the sea. Kids love him, so do students too and this is his first full-length movie. Enough said!

TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE (15): Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the anarchic geniuses responsible for South Park, put their politically incorrect, foul-mouthed spin on Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet with this adults-only puppet romp.
