THE owners of a miniature Jack Russell called Alfie claim he scared off a burglar who was in their Enham Al-amein home.
His owners Mike and Julia Lloyd, of Chapel Lane, said 14-year-old Alfie charged towards the burglar when he entered their living room on 8 January at around 5.45pm.
The man had got in through a bedroom window and was unaware that anyone was in the house.
Mrs Lloyd, aged 67, explained that Alfie had been lying under Mr Lloyd's feet when he became aware of noises in the house.
The couple also heard noises from the bedroom and then the man opened the living room where they were watching TV. She said: "I have never seen Alfie move so fast."
The man was not shocked to see them but quickly ran from the house when Alfie went towards him growling.
Mrs Lloyd, who is disabled, wants to encourage more people to report such incidents.
She said: "If enough people come forward we would beat this type of crime."
The man is described as white, in his late 30s, of stocky build and with short, black hair. He was about 5ft 10ins tall.
He was wearing polished, black heavy shoes, dark trousers and a long black woollen calf-length coat.
