IT was a case of 'great Scott' for Team Southampton in the weekend's cross-country double header in the Hampshire and Wessex Leagues.
Scott Legg was the hero of the weekend, winning the under-15 boys' Wessex race at Poole.
It came some 24 hours after placing sixth in the final Hampshire League fixture at Hamworthy and helping Southampton's under-15 boys into overall runners-up spot.
Under-15 teammate Scott Gallant showed a return to form after a long period recovering from injury. He took tenth in the Hampshire League and a strong second in the Wessex, just behind Legg.
Southampton's under-15 boys filled seven of the first ten places at Poole.
The Wessex fixture also proved productive for Jon Slade, who won the under-17 men's event, and for Sasha Mucci, who led the under-17 women home. Both athletes had run the previous day at Hamworthy and helped secure first and second places respectively for Southampton's under-17 women and men.
Lucy Bowers continued her successful season, finishing the Hampshire League with overall bronze. Also clinching a second team place in the Hampshire League were Southampton's under-15 girls, who provided the overall silver medallist in Louise Webb.
Under-20 man Alex Wall-Clarke finished fifth on the day and in overall bronze spot in the Hampshire League, while Gareth Klepacz was 12th out of 150-plus senior men at Hamworthy.
The club return to action at the English National Cross-Country Championships at Birmingham this weekend. Hopes are high for under-15 athlete Rebecca Gough, who has had an excellent season so far in the Reebok Cross Challenge.
