The last Hampshire League cross-country race of the season took place in extremely windy conditions in Wimborne at the weekend, resulting in the Winchester and District club boasting a league champion and some good team results.
In the Senior Womens' event, Winchester had a first and second. Rachel Townend secured another win, with Natalie Coveney having her best run of the season to finish second and Fran Gay completing the team in 45th place.
Over the season Townend had a magnificent five Senior wins in the league to become champion with Coveney fourth. The team were tantalisingly close to being champions, losing out to Aldershot by just one point over the season. However, the Vets team at Wimborne were led home by Gay, with support from Delian Brown and Sue Davis, whose fifth place on the day was enough for the Vets to be crowned league winners.
The Senior Men were newly promoted to Division 1 this season, and have struggled in some races. However, they fielded one of their strongest teams of the season, with 11 runners, to finish fifth in this race.
That gave them a seventh place in the league and secured their Division 1 position for another year.
There were some good individual results, with Julian Mann an excellent 18th, Duncan Wightman 34th, Jeremy Braines 39th, George Hide 40th, Daniel Leedham 62nd (8th U20), Alex Pritchard 66th (9th U20), Mike Noyce 67th, Phil Manly 76th, Ian Leedham 137th, Ken Hardcastle 151st and Andy Tremain 158th.
The U13 Girls had some great successes as Nicola Ferris finished the season in style with a win. Louisa Warwick was fifth, Ollie Berry ninth, Hannah Vosser tenth and Fenella Langridge 21st. The team finished second and an excellent second overall in the league, a great result to go with their County Championship win in January. In addition, Ferris finished second overall in the League and Vosser fifth.
The U15 Boys had their best positions of the season with Dan Hunt ninth and Jack Bolton 11th, while the U13 Boys achieved another good team result with James Harding 16th, Ollie Halford-Guerra 23rd, Sam Bolton 27th and Sean Davis 32nd.
