CRUNCH time has arrived at the Trojans club. Three-and-a-half hours of hockey against Woking, Epsom and Hamble on the next three Saturdays will decide whether Trojans are crowned Hampshire/Surrey Regional League champions.
Win them and it's all over bar the shouting for Trojans, who go into the triple crunch two points ahead of Epsom, with a game in hand and a handsome goal difference to boot.
Fourteen wins from 16 unbeaten matches is Trojans' near perfect return.
"It's been superb so far, but everything is on the next three weeks," Trojans skipper Campbell Williams points out.
Physiologically, Trojans will start with an advantage against their three rivals - all of whom they've beaten this season.
"Not only that, this side is the best we've had at Stoneham Lane for many a year and it's one that believes in itself," he said.
Scotsman Craig Sommerville put his country's rugby woes to one side as he drove Trojans to a 5-2 win at fifth-placed Old Kingstonians.
"It was like watching a young Graeme Souness in the halcyon Liverpool days," Williams reflected.
"He drove the midfield with pace and determination, linking defence to attack."
Sommerville's midfield dynamics brought its rewards with Paul Hilton and Wayne Shepherd putting Trojans 2-0 ahead.
Kingstonians clawed a goal back from an unexpected penalty flick, but Trojans responded in kind with Hilton quickly making it 3-1.
Trojans were caught by another quick foray up field, but any prospect the Surrey old boys had of grabbing a point were dashed when Colin French ran 50 yards to score a fourth.
Williams himself notched Trojans' fifth to put the Stoneham club in good heart for Saturday's visit to Woking, who shattered Winchester's eight-match unbeaten run with a 3-0 win at Kings.
The umpires were kept particularly busy during a card-strewn affair, in which Winchester were reduced to nine players at one stage.
Winchester fell behind while Dom Walker was sin-binned in the early stages and were 2-0 adrift by the break.
A positive start to the second half saw Ben Hibberd and Andy Winnett go close, but with two more players sentenced to a spell in the 'cooler', Woking clinched the points.
