Southampton Gymnastics' Sports Acrobatics and Tumbling teams starred at the Buckinghamshire Open competition in Milton Keynes.

The tournament atracted entries from 18 clubs, with nearly 200 sports acrobatics partnerships and tumblers competing in 33 separate categories.

The Southampton club entered a small team of gymnasts from their elite Sports Acrobatics squad and from affiliated clubs Inner City Boys, Test Valley, City Acro and Millbrook - and won 11 medals.

Inner City Boys quartet Daniel Avery, Danny Crook, James Cannon and Lee Barnard all took gold medals in the tumbling, with Theodore King winning silver.

The Intermediate 3 Women's Group of Lydia Williams, Sian Eccleston and Megan Dollman, the Intermediate 4 Women's Pairs of Hayley Warren and Jessie Allen, and FIG Junior Women's Pairs Rachael Buckman and Mia Surplice, all from the Sports Acrobatics Squad, all took silvers.

In the World Age Group 11-16 Womens Groups, the acro squad's Rachel Easton, Cassie Beale and Ellen Stafford-Watson used the competition as a warm up for next month's Sports Acrobatics British Championships and finished second - just 0.25 points behind Oxford.

The Southampton Amateur Gymnastics Club was founded in 1968. It is a voluntary organisation which relies on membership fees and charitable funding. Most of the club's 60 coaches are unpaid volunteers.

The club provides gymnastics opportunities for over 400 people, covering a range of activities such as Tumble Tots and Gym Bobs, Team Gym, Artistic gymnastics, Special Needs, and Sports Acrobatics - from recreational level to elite squads.

The club operates out of a main centre at The Deanery in Chapel Road with 12 satellite centres scattered in and around the city.
