Hampshire Under-20s moved to the top of their County Championship pool with a hard-fought 29-16 victory over winless Surrey at a wild and wintry Esher.
Tries from Winchester duo Adam Balls and Adam Smith, the latter's coming in the dying minutes to wrap up the win, led the way in the five-try victory that sees them leapfrog Army at the helm.
Newbury scrum-half Riaan Dohne, prop James Mildenhall and Petersfield's lock Ben Chesney added the other scores while David Byett kicked two conversions.
It was certainly not a comfortable afternoon for Pete Allen's men, but a win all the same.
