MUMS. They are great aren't they? They cook your dinner, wash your clothes and ferry you here, there and everywhere.

They love you, look after you and make you feel special.

For the second year running, young Daily Echo readers are being given the chance to make their mums feel special too - in our Mother's Day competition.

Children across Hampshire are invited to draw a colourful picture of their mum for the chance to win a selection of prizes to spoil her in the way she deserves in the run-up to Mother's Day.

The competition is open to two categories of age group including children up to six years and those from seven to ten.

Winners in each category, who will be chosen by a panel of judges, will receive prizes including a Mother's Day lunch for four at the Marwell Hotel, a pampering treatment for mum in Marwell Hotel's Zuri Spa, a family ticket to Marwell Zoo, a £30 bouquet of flowers and £50 of Toys R Us vouchers.

All the pictures that are entered will go in a special Mother's Day supplement, free with the Daily Echo on Saturday, March 5, in which the winners will be announced.

Last year's competition attracted more than 600 outstanding mum masterpieces.

Judges had a difficult task picking the winners but eventually four-year-old Ella Dennison and ten-year-old Anna Leathem were chosen for their extra special works of art.

Ella, of Winchester Road, Bassett, Southampton, went for sparkles and glitter to produce a twinkling portrayal of mum Patrisha, while Anna, of Winchester Road, Chandler's Ford, impressed the judges with a colourful cartoon picture which included thought bubbles depicting all the things her mum did for her.

The closing date for this year's competition entries is Wednesday, February 23.

Send your entries to Mother's Day at Marwell Competition, Southern Daily Echo, PO Box 543, Southampton, SO16 9ZQ.

Each picture must be attached to an original entry form which can be found on page six of today's Daily Echo.
