STRACHAN could be on his way to St Mary's next weekend.
But Saints fans thinking 'not another managerial change!' can rest assured that the Strachan in question is Gordon's son, Gavin.
Gavin has been a regular in the Hartlepool squad this season and his side will start favourites to beat League 1 rivals Brentford in tomorrow's FA Cup fourth round replay at the Victoria Stadium.
The winners will travel to St Mary's in the last 16 tomorrow week.
Hartlepool boast the best home record in English professional football - they have won 12 and drawn just two of their 14 games so far.
But the Bees, managed by former West Ham hardman Martin Allen, will be no pushovers - as Pools found out to their cost in the 0-0 draw at Griffin Park a fortnight ago.
Pools boss Neale Cooper said: "The replay will be a hell of a game - it will be fireworks .
"We knew it would be very difficult at their place, because we knew exactly how they would play.
"They are a physical side and we were a little disappointed with some of the things the referee let them get away with - leading with the arm."
At least one member of the Saints team will be hoping Brentford can stop Pools' 19-goal top scorer Adam Boyd and book a trip to the south coast.
For keeper Paul Smith, who will play next week as Antti Niemi continues his recovery from a knee operation, started his pro career at Brentford before a £500,000 move to the Premiership last January.
Hartlepool, meanwhile, have already beaten one Hampshire team in the FA Cup this season - they thrashed Conference high-fliers Aldershot 5-1 in the first round last November.
