A tuk-tuk to get you to church on time!

IF the Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles are looking for some offbeat transport for their wedding day, Darren Baker and Andy Ellison have the answer.

Forget the Bentley or the antique Roller. They could now hire a white tuk-tuk for the happy occasion.

Motorbikes, tractors and even fire engines have all been done before but Darren and Andy, from Totton, believe they have hit upon something unique.

They have bought their very own white tuk-tuk, imported from India, for wedding hire across the region.

Any holidaymaker who has travelled to Asia will be familiar with the three-wheeled motorised rickshaws.

"It's something out of the ordinary," said Darren, a taxi driver. "The wedding is a day to remember and this will appeal to anyone who feels like something different."

Darren and Andy have been turning a few heads as they get to grips with their new pride and joy on the roads of Totton and Southampton.

Andy, a mechanic, added: "I laughed when Darren first suggested the idea to me but then I thought about it and realised it could take off. It's different and everybody looks at you as you're driving down the road."

The tuk-tuk can reach a top speed of about 45-50mph and seats three people in the back.

The entrepreneurs already have their first booking and will ferry a friend and his partner to an Indian restaurant for a Valentine's Day to remember.

They bought the £4,000 tuk-tuk from a Southampton based company, Freewheeler Autos, which imports the vehicles from India and Thailand.

Other local clients have included the King and I Thai Restaurant in Southampton High Street. Darren and Andy are also planning to use the vehicle for corporate advertising.
