POLICE are following up new leads in the hunt for two robbers who left a pensioner for dead on a compost heap in a Southampton park.
Officers returned to the scene a week after Dennis Tierney was attacked in Riverside Park in a bid to find any witnesses who had not yet come forward.
Leaflets appealing for information were handed out to dog walkers and people using the park yesterday afternoon.
They were also asked whether they were in the area last Wednesday just before 4pm when the robbery happened.
Officers also distributed 500 flyers to households that back on to the recreation ground.
As reported in the Daily Echo, Mr Tierney was punched in the stomach after handing over £8 to two robbers who threatened him with a knife.
After collapsing on the compost heap robbers then covered Mr Tierney with branches to hide their tracks. The 70-year-old was not found until 18 hours later.
Mr Tierney, a grandfather of two, is recovering at his Bitterne Park home, having spent four days in hospital with hypothermia.
Det Con Joe Stock, who is leading the hunt for the robbers, said: "We have had a good response today. There are several leads we will be following up as a result of speaking to people who were in the area last week.
"We will continue to pursue this inquiry and anyone who has still not come forward who thinks they may have information should get in touch with us as soon as possible."
