ROMSEY schoolboy rider James Humby has signed for the Oxford Silver Machine speedway team.
James, who's 15, has progressed through the various levels of junior speedway, which ultimately led to him winning the British Under 15 Junior Championship in 2003.
He's since gone on to impress the Oxford promoter, Nigel Wagstaff, who has given him a contract for the forthcoming Conference League season.
Mr. Wagstaff said that for senior British riders to successfully compete against the best in the world, speedway should look towards how football develops players at an early age in readiness for the top flight.
By signing James and similar riders of his ability and experience, he said he's aiming to develop the long-term prospects of both Oxford and British speedway.
James is also a member of the inaugural ACU Speedway Academy, which has taken just eight of the UK's most gifted youngsters, with an aim to develop them over a two-year period into riders of international potential.
As with any form of motorcycle racing, speedway is an expensive activity. Any company or local business that would like to advertise on the bikes or race suits by way of sponsorship, please contact 01794 884739 or 07790 883333.
