The Mountbatten School & Language School's U14 girls' team has qualified for the English Schools Athletic Association Bazuka National Swimming Championships.
The team qualified for the freestyle relay finals through the Divisional championships.
The team members are Naomi Collicott (Year 7), Leah Husband (Year 8), Hayley Couchman and Catherine Whitley (both Year 9).
The team produced a superb performance of 2:01.72 to win the Divisional Championships at Southampton.
The time ranked the team sixth throughout the country and gained automatic qualification to the national finals.
The quality of the performance is highlighted by the fact that over 250 secondary schools entered the competition.
The team narrowly missed the medley relay finals. Their time of 2.20.3 placed them in 13th position; tantalisingly close to a second appearance in the national finals.
The team will travel to Middlesbrough to compete in the national finals early next month.
