COACH Nicky Banger witnessed a side of Eastleigh he never wants to see again in last night's 3-0 Ryman surrender at Worthing.

After holding strong for an hour, Paul Doswell's men were guilty of poor marking from a corner, allowing Matt Russell to head the hosts in front.

It was at that point that the fight visibly drained out of the Sparshatts Stadium side, inviting further goals for Sam Francis and Ronnie Green.

The result is another costly setback for Eastleigh as the race hots up for the play-off places and Banger reflected: "For 60 minutes we were sat there on the line thinking that even though it wasn't a great game, we might nick it 1-0.

"But then Ryan Ashford gave the ball away, we conceded a corner and we didn't mark the set-piece. What was really frustrating was that once Worthing had scored, we just rolled over.

"We'd been working hard for 60 minutes but we lost our shape, Worthing got their tails up and got 15 or 20 per cent extra out of their players. We still have belief in our players but the manner of defeat left a bad taste in the mouth and they've been told it's unacceptable."

It might have been different had on-loan Stevenage Borough striker Craig McAllister capitalised on a glaring first-half chance.

As a cross came in, he had a free header from four yards out, but the ball glanced off his forehead.

"It was harder to miss that one than score," said ex-Dell striker Banger.

It was a bad night too for Premier Division strugglers Salisbury City, who were outclassed 3-0 at Slough Town in the Bryco Cup.

Ryan Spencer and two-goal Matt Murphy did the damage for the Berkshire side who, according to Whites assistant boss Barry Blankley, fully deserved the result.

"We were beaten by a better team," he confessed. "We competed and I can't fault the effort of the lads, but the side's lacking confidence.

"What's also disappointing is that there were six bookings and they were all our players, yet it wasn't a dirty game."
