ARMY officer Nick May decided to take a shot at biathlon just a few months ago and has already tasted national success.
May, who lives in Barton Stacey near Winchester, has just returned from the British National Cross Country and Biathlon Championships in Rupholding, Germany with three titles.
Having only taken up the sport at the end of November 2004, he won three National titles - National Novice Champion in 15km Biathlon, 12.5km Biathlon and National Novice champion for the combined 15km cross-country and Biathlon.
Nick then went on to Austria to take part in his first International cross-country race.
"I was competing against the best of the best - skiers who have already qualified for the Turin Olympics," he said.
"My aims are to qualify for the World Cup circuit in the 2005/6 season, then compete at the World Championships in 2007, and the Vancouver Olympics in 2010.
"Naturally I would like to qualify for the Turin Olympics - we shall see."
There are only three British cross-country skiers on the international circuit, and they receive no funding at all. If any companies are interested in sponsorship please get in touch via nick@maywoodpolo.com
