CROWD favourite 'Dangerous' Danny Goode set Southampton Guildhall alight on Sunday - but later revealed he almost had to miss the fight.
The New Milton middleweight was struggling with a dose of 'flu last week and it looked touch and go as to whether he would be able to box.
But he shook it off just in time to take on Aldershot's Neil Jamolinski in only his second professional fight.
It proved to be a hugely entertaining fight with both boxers refusing to take a step backwards.
But Goode, pictured left, just produced the cleaner work and came on strong after receiving a disputed count in the third round after what looked more like a punch than a push.
"It was a good fight. I had 'flu last week and wasn't sure I would make it. It was a slip, not a punch that put me down," said Goode.
Gosport's Steve Ede, meanwhile, made an excellent professional debut with a fourth-round stoppage of the more experienced Jed Tytler, ending the contest with a peach of a right-hook.
"He was superb," said trainer Jack bishop.
"We said in the gym that he was not putting his weight behind the shots and he did it on Sunday against an experienced guy. He did excellent."
Sunday also saw a debut for Southampton cruiserweight Mervyn Langdale, who recovered from a slow start to finish strongly and gain a draw against Battersea's Nick Okoth.
"We thought it would be hard for him," admitted Bishop. "But he took charge in the fourth round and fought his way back into the fight.
"He reacted brilliantly to a late change of opponent and nearly had him out."
In other heavyweight action, Oville MacKenzie recorded a points win over Yorkshire's Paul Bonson.
