A Totton allotment holder is kicking up a stink over the damage done by tractors delivering manure to plots.

Stanley Baker, pictured, 77, has made a complaint to Totton and Eling Town Council, which owns the allotments at Water Lane.

Now the council will ask all allotment holders in the town to respect other people's plots when deliveries are made.

Mr Baker said: "On one occasion I lost all my greens, including my leeks and sprouts, when a tractor went right across the middle of my allotment.

"Another grower who suffered the same fate walked off and never came back."

Mr Baker referred to another incident in which a tractor was driven along the side of his allotment, carving a trench that had to be filled in.

Town clerk Derek Biggs said: "Tenants can have manure delivered but we like them to be present to ensure it's delivered to the right place and that none of the other plots are affected.

"Mr Baker's allotment has suffered damage but we don't know who was responsible.

"When we next write to allotment holders we'll ask them to be careful and remind them of the need to respect other people's plots."
