A SCHOOL cro-ssing patrol in Collingbourne Kingston, which assists just one child to cross the busy A338 road each afternoon, is to be axed as part of a redeployment of resour-ces in the area.
The patrol has been in place since 1978 and was established to help children returning by bus to Collingbourne Kingston from the primary sch-ool in Ducis. Instead, a new patrol will be established in Collingbourne Ducis close to the entrance to the new school in Chicks Lane if members of Wilt-shire County Council's regulatory committee agree.
Councillors have been told the number of pupils crossing the A338 to get to the new school is in double figures and although the speed limit in the area is 30mph around 15 per cent of vehicles are probably travelling at 40mph or more.
