HE has sold more than 200 million records worldwide and his back catalogue of hits spans more than three decades.
Now after playing to millions around the world, including memorable performances at the Live Aid Concert and Princess Diana's Funeral, Elton John is coming to Southampton Football Club.
The flamboyant star has today been announced as the first ever act to play at The Friends Provident St Mary's Stadium on May 28.
He will perform more than two hours of hits including the classics Your Song, Are You Ready for Love, Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, Rocket Man and I Want Love.
The club has described the concert as a 'major coup' as they attempt to attract big names to the venue.
Southampton FC Chairman Rupert Lowe said: "We are delighted to be having a pop star with such a huge international reputation as Elton John performing at the stadium and I am looking forward to it immensely.
"This is another example of the club breaking new ground as a venue for some of the best entertainment on the south coast and we hope it will be the first of many events of this kind."
Tickets will go on public sale on February 17 at 9am and can be purchased by phoning the Elton John 24 hour ticket hotlines.
Saints fans will have an exclusive opportunity to purchase their seats ahead of the general sale date with tickets going on sale next Tuesday at 9am.
They will cost between £35 and £60 at the all seater event and tickets will be limited to six per customer.
Southampton Council's Cabinet member for leisure and special events Peter Wakeford said: "This is an excellent start for the new venture. It shows again that Southampton is able to draw acts and events of international standing, and I wish Southampton Football Club every success just as I'm sure the concert itself will be."
Elton last performed in the area five years ago when he played at Broadlands as part of his solo 'evening with' concert series although he has also played dates at Southampton University and the Guildhall throughout his career.
