theatre Royal Winchester presents The Ugly Eagle, a family show for children aged three and over, on Monday, February 14, and Tuesday, February 15.
The show is a magical mixture of Hans Christian Anderson's The Ugly Duckling and the African tale Fly Eagle Fly,
Larry the duck is different from all other ducks. None of the ducks in the park want to play with him. He isn't even allowed on the swimming team.
Then, one day, a beautiful African eagle arrives. The eagle cheers Larry up by telling him his special story about how he is different too.
The two stories share the same message that everyone is unique and special.
The Ugly Eagle combines dance, theatre, animation and puppetry, all set in a bright playground. Applauded by audiences and critics alike for its dynamic, vivid and enthralling style, this enchanting co-production by the esteemed Birmingham Repertory Theatre and Moving Hands Theatre has refined and refreshed this beautiful and touching tale for young children.
Led by Musa, a dancer from South Africa, there will a Gum Boot Dance Workshop on the Monday for eight-year-olds and over.
On the Tuesday, Musa will lead a workshop on shadow puppets, which will give children over the age of eight the chance to make their own shadow puppet characters and to create their own piece of theatre, to perform at the end of the session.
Tickets cost £6 and are available from the box office on 01962 840440, or online at www.theatre-royal-winchester.co.uk
