Bashley took a raw, young side to Folkestone Invicta in the Bryco Cup last night and were slightly unfortunate to lose 2-1.

With a combination of work commitments and injury ruling out Richard Gillespie, Andy Culliford, Paul Gazzard and Gary Langrish, the New Forest club had to dip into their young reserve side for defender Chris Slade, wide right man Andy Gough, midfielder Darren Head and frontrunner James Totczyk.

Another youngster, Paul Miller, made an appearance off the bench.

The early signs looked grim as Folkestone raced into a 2-0 inside ten minutes through Joe Nielson and Michael Everitt.

But once Bashley had settled, they gave as good as they got and deservedly pulled a goal back on 24 minutes when 16-year-old Totczyk delivered an excellent ball for Head to finish with a first-time shot.

Totczyk could later have scored himself from a good ball by Dave Wakefield, but his effort was well saved.

"Given the circumstances, we did really well," said loyal Bash follower Pete Millard. "It looked like it was going to be a long night after two quick Folkestone goals, but we had a very inexperienced side out who weren't disgraced at all."
