LYMINGTON Town manager John Pyatt was left scratching his head last night after their Sydenhams Wessex League Division 2 game at Bishop's Waltham Town was postponed.
"How can you believe that they have two waterlogged goalmouths when it hasn't rained for five days?" asked a puzzled Pyatt.
"A win last night would have put us 13 points clear at the top, now we haven't got a game this Saturday either and our lead could well be cut back to just seven.
"We've a Russell-Cotes Cup quarter-final next Tuesday, which means that it's going to be a fortnight before we play a league game again.
"What's the point in being top of the league with games in hand? We need to be playing football."
At least Amesbury Town were playing last night as they notched up a fairly comfortable 3-0 home success against Shaftesbury.
A spectacular headed own goal by Mark Cooper on 15 minutes put the Wiltshire side ahead.
Neil Sole doubled their advantage after 35 minutes with an amazing 'Beckhamesque' lob over the keeper from the halfway line.
Amesbury sealed the points midway through the second half. Kevin Cummins took a threaded through ball from Josh Harold and cut his way into the penalty area where he rifled an unstoppable shot high into the roof of the net.
Division 3 championship chasers Colden Common have been stunned by the news that manager Dave Riddell wants to stand down at the end of the season.
Riddell has cited "personal reasons" for his decision and his loss will be a huge blow to the Commoners, who are currently unbeaten in 22 league and cup games.
