A DRIVER died in an accident involving two cars on a major Meon Valley road last night.
The 75-year-old man was killed when his white Vauxhall Corsa collided with a Peugeot 306 coming in the opposite direction on the A32 at Droxford.
Firefighters were called to the scene just before midnight yesterday and had to cut the man, who is thought to be from the Waterlooville area, free from the wreckage.
He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 48-year-old male passenger in the Corsa, which was travelling south along Garrison Hill, also suffered serious head and neck injuries and was taken to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.
The driver of the northbound Peugeot, a 21-year-old man from Meonstoke, also needed hospital treatment after suffering injuries to his neck and back.
PC Scott Davison, of Cosham traffic police, said: "As a result of the collision the driver of the Corsa received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are still in the process of notifying the families of the people involved in the accident."
Police sealed off the scene to allow investigators to determine the cause of the accident. The road was reopened just before 7am.
