HAMPSHIRE fire bosses have revealed that the cause of a blaze at Marchwood Waste Transfer Station is likely never to be known.
Assistant divisional officer Steve Quinn, responsible for post-incident community safety, told the Daily Echo that the fire investigation team had only reported their initial indications so far.
A final report is expected within the next fortnight.
"The fire investigator on scene has told me that the most likely cause on the report will be 'cause unknown'," said Mr Quinn.
"However, he is still working on that report and other things may still come to light that might change that."
The 18-hour inferno broke out among 200 tons of rubbish shortly after 9pm on Saturday, January 22.
