SOUTHAMPTON sports fans can look forward to a bumper Sunday of action this week, with top-class boxing following Saints' crucial Premiership match against Everton.

The football kicks off at St Mary's at 2pm, with a top-class bill of professional boxing then taking place at Southampton Guildhall from 4pm.

The show had been originally scheduled for 3pm, but promoter Jack Bishop took the decision to move it back by an hour so that the many Saints supporters who are also big fight fans can enjoy both events.

Topping the bill at the boxing will be Lordshill heavyweight and avid Saints fan Colin Kenna, pictured above.

He will be making his return to professional action against Brixton's O'Neil Murray following nine months out of the ring after surgery to cure an elbow injury.

Nicknamed 'Big Red', Jamaican-born Murray had a win over Southampton's Joe Brame on his only other professional visit to the city, although he has only fought once since April, 2003.

Kenna's elbow problem forced him out of a fight with top-ten British rated heavyweight Mark Krence last May after he had been holding his own against the Chesterfield boxer.

Bishop's Southampton Guildhall Sunday show will feature five of the area's leading professionals, with two Southampton boxers making their debuts.

Langley's Mervyn Langdale will have his first professional fight against Gary Thompson while Gosport's Steve Ede will take-on Jed Tytler.

Heavyweight Billy Bessey is scheduled to fight on the show following his recent successful return after a three-year break and he will take on the giant Mal Rice.

New Milton's Danny Goode will also continue his hugely promising career against Neil Jamolinski.

The boxing begins at 4pm on February 6 and tickets are now available from the Southampton Guildhall (telephone: 023 8063 2601).
