SAINTS are making a transfer deadline day double swoop for Newcastle left-back Olivier Bernard and Wolves striker Henri Camara.
But Harry Redknapp now looks certain to lose out in his bid for Nottingham Forest winger Andy Reid.
Twenty-five-year-old Bernard travelled to Southampton this morning to finalise a deal thought to be in the region of £400,000.
Camara, 27, is also at St Mary's discussing a loan move until the end of the season.
The Senegalese international has been on loan at Celtic from Wolves but has fallen out of favour at Parkhead. And this morning it emerged that Brett Ormerod could be part of the deal by going on loan to Wolves until the end of the season.
Both players still have to agree personal terms and pass medicals.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey, said: "A deal hasn't gone through yet, but nothing will happen unless we are completely satisfied the deal is to the benefit of Wolves."
Paris-born Bernard has been at Newcastle for nearly five years, but has fallen down the pecking order after Toon boss Graeme Souness recently signed Celestine Babayaro from Chelsea.
Saints manager Harry Redknapp has been keen to add some pace to his team and has earmarked the wide positions as areas in need of improvement.
Bernard will be seen as a long-term replacement for Graeme Le Saux, but he can also push forward into left midfield - a position recently occupied by Anders Svensson, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
The Frenchman has played more than 100 times for Newcastle, having joined on a free transfer from Lyon during the summer of 2000.
But his contract expires at the end of the season and he has refused to accept the new terms on offer at St James' Park.
Celtic have an option to buy Camara permanently for £5.8m this summer.
Camara was Wolves' player-of-the-year last season, scoring seven goals as the club was relegated from the Premiership.
He made the headlines for all the wrong reasons against Saints last April when, after scoring Wolves' consolation in a 4-1 loss at Molineux, he ended Jason Dodd's season with an x-rated tackle.
Camara can play on either side of a five-man midfield as well as in a traditional strikers' role.
Redknapp said recently he wanted a forward who could play wide or through the middle.
Camara leapt to fame when he played for Senegal in the 2002 World Cup, scoring twice in his country's 2-1 win against Sweden.
With Bernard and Camara already at St Mary's, any deal to bring Reid or Paolo Di Canio to the club looks dead in the water.
Saints and Forest had agreed a deal thought to be £3m plus Darren Kenton and Ormerod for Republic of Ireland international Reid, but the
