PROFLIGATE St Cross Symondians may have tossed away their chances of featuring in the NatWest Under-16 Indoor Cricket League championship play-offs at the Rose Bowl.
They conceded a whopping 60 extras - mainly no-balls and wides - against South Wilts and fell to a 32-run defeat.
They later beat Hursley Park to move into a potential qualifiying fourth place, but all the teams below them in the table have matches in hand.
The generous bowling by the St Cross team enabled South Wilts to post a formidable 164-2 - Jamie Bennett (33), Tom Pearce (27) and Baz Street (27) tucking in.
Jack Jenkins (26) and Richard Wood (26) guided St Cross to 132-2, but the Winchester side was never in the hunt.
St Cross bowled little better against Hursley Park but, despite giving away 51 runs in no-balls and wides, scored 123-3 (Porter 27, Wood 26) to win by nine runs.
Hursley replied with 114-4 (Lutman 28).
Improving South Wilts completed a double when Bennett (41), Pearce (27) and Street (21) guided them to 127-4 and victory over Hursley Park (122 all out).
The Dummer Cricket Centre, near Basingstoke, has plans to introduce the Australian-style eight-a-side game and is having a full-scale trial match this afternoon (3pm).
