MORE than 300 members of Southampton Swimming Club descended upon St Mary's Stadium recently.

But football was not the reason for the mass gathering - picking up well-deserved silverware at the presentation evening was!

As well as the just under 200 trophies and 780 medals from the Championships, there were presentations for special trophies.

The Marion Hannant Trophy for the 'unsung hero' went to coach John Langdon - who has recently become president of the club - for his contributions to early morning training.

The mayor's trophy for outstanding contributions went to Rob McLean who has served with the club for many years.

The swimmers' swimmer trophy went to Natasha Day a member of the Top Squad while the Most Encouraging Swimmer Poolside Trophy, which is voted by the parents, went to Lewis Callen from Training 3 squad.

The Best Improver trophy was collected by Clive Hammond, also from Training 3, for his improvements during the last year.

Sebastian Willcocks secured a number of the special trophies. The Biathlon trophy for his win at the National Biathlon, Junior Boy, and the Group A Trophy for his achievements at the Hampshire Championships last year.

The girls' Group A Trophy went to Leah Husband for her achievements at the Hampshire Championships last year. Charlotte Slater won the Junior Girl.

Emma Macey collected the Best National Swim Trophy for fifth position in the 200m butterfly and Senior Girl Trophy while teammate Sarah Brown won the girls' Biathlon Trophy for her achievements at national and world level.

Chris Jones took away the Senior Boy Trophy.

The Best Disabled Male Trophy went to James King while Sarah Timms secured the girls' equivalent.
