KEVIN Mascelyne's funeral: Was a memorable occasion at Christ the King Church on January 14.
Kevin was well known and respected and, although disabled from childhood, retained his good spirits.
He regularly attended church, assisting with readings and greetings.
In the church collection, £233 was raised for the Renal Unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.
This, I believe, would have pleased Kevin.
STARLINGS Pre-school: Children continue to attend sessions at Hill Rise Hall.
There are two sites where the pre-school is held - Hill Rise Hall and Manor Field Infant School.
Michelle Stewart, the business manager, can be contacted by calling 07941 596638 or 07740 715078.
This term, the theme for the pre-school is weather and the seasons.
Because it is winter, the children are learning about snow, rain and wind.
They work with activity sheets, some of which show sketches of boots, rain, windy conditions and snow.
Children produce effects such as clouds by using black or white cotton wool.
They also use tissue paper to create umbrellas to fix to the sheets.
The pre-school has many toys for the children to play with and books to help reading.
Children can also make music, using instruments that encourage a sense of rhythm, for example drums, shakers and tambourines.
They enjoy playing The Grand Old Duke of York.
They have a snack of fruit and milk or water, followed by a story.
HILL Rise Hall Pre-school: is open from 9.15am to 11.45am, Monday to Friday.
From February 21, this will change to 9am to 11.30am.
A mother and toddler group will meet on Wednesdays, from 1pm to 2.30pm.
